Don’t Start Building Just Yet

What your users don’t even know is a problem, they will never report. And that’s a problem.

Continuing from our last post where we discuss how building from day one is a bad idea in Sales Operations, let us elaborate that with an example.

In one of my previous jobs I had this sales guy – pretty experienced and he had used the existing CRM for years.

And yet when I saw him fill the data – he would click the ‘Edit’ button and the entire page would load and he would update the stage and the process repeated for few more opportunities – until I interrupted:

“You know the fields are all inline editable on the objects. Meaning you can just double click the field to update, rather than clicking edit button for the entire record to load every single time and it is way more faster and easier.”

His response:

Ummm….I did not know that. I in fact did not think that it was a problem coz I presumed ‘that is how it works’! Now that you tell me – well I have lost so much time doing this for so long!”

You see what I meant by spending time with your users in the first few weeks? That is just one user and one application. Think at scale.

What your users don’t even know is a problem, they will never report. And that’s a problem.
